Pretty & Protected

Safety is one of the most important things, nothing feels better than being safe. P&P is an app designed for Apple watch users. Its focus is to keep you safe, no matter the time and location.

Inspiration The idea behind Pretty & Protected was inspired by Women's History Month. Inspired to bring about awareness on women's safety as well as the growing diversity initiatives in STEM we decided to combine both these ideas in our app. Feeling safe and secure on the go was the reason we decided to go with an Apple Watch app. However, we would love to see this take the form of a mobile app that is available to android users and iOS users.

How We Built Pretty & Protected: This is our team's first-ever hackathon and we are super proud of this app idea and prototype. We collectively agree as a group to create something that prioritizes people's safety, especially for women or those who crave the need to feel protected at all times. We built the prototype on Marvel and then showcased it through a website made using HTML/CSS. We used GitHub to collaborate and manage it well within the team.

Challenges: Like any other team, we faced a few challenges along the way. One of the biggest challenges we faced early on was with team dynamics. We started with four members for the hackathon, at the last minute we had a slight issue with our fourth member, resulting in her leaving the team, but the issue was resolved in a respectable and professional manner. This was beneficial as it was before the hackathon's opening ceremony, as it did not affect our project.
