Inspiration

We were inspired to create a project that focuses on helping people lead a healthier lifestyle. We have many friends who are track and field runners, which reminded us of the fitness tests we had in gym class back in elementary school. We wanted to inspire people to get more exercise by providing a unique experience that made running more enjoyable, helping promote a healthy body.

What it does

This device has two features. It can be used to automatically keep track of a runner's lap times when in "laps mode", or it can be used to generate a custom suicides exercise when in "suicides mode".

How we built it

To build our device, we used an Arduino Uno along with a breadboard. Using these, we connected various components including LEDs, push buttons, buzzers, and an ultrasonic sensor for detecting the user's movement.

Challenges we ran into

A challenge that we faced was our inexperience with working with hardware going into this hackathon. We had never used an Arduino before, which presented a learning curve that we had to get over.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Being our first time using hardware for a coding project, we're really happy with what we managed to accomplish. We were able to use various physical components, including LEDs, push buttons, buzzers, and even an ultrasonic sensor.

What we learned

We learned a lot about the hardware side, such as how to use resistors, tracing the path of a circuit, and overall hardware integration with software. We also expanded on our knowledge of C++.

What's next for PRET

The future of PRET includes a more compact design, more features, and app integration to create a more personalized and versatile running experience for its users.
