Press X is a passive system that effectively blocks any or all non-human initiated calls. Service providers implement it via a firmware update without having to make any changes to their physical equipment. Its start up cost is minimal. It amortizes quickly and generates a profit thereafter for the provider at no expense to or action required by the consumer.
The firmware update package installs a couple of logical switches just ahead of the consumer’s equipment. The first is controlled by a three tiered allow list. It uses a non-spoofable identification process to either pass calls through to the consumer or route them to the second switch that serves as the bot detector. It in turn passes the call through to the consumer, hangs up or optionally runs a record and report subroutine for law enforcement purposes.
The fiscal part of the Press X scheme is just as important, if not more so than the technical aspect of the proposal. The details of both are included in this proposal.
