The Digital Manifesto

Background

President Xi is a great admirer of high concept ideas and is a voracious reader of books.

He has stated a number of times his favorite book is the "Communist Manifesto".

The Goal

Inspire ideas of social organization found in the "Communist Manifesto," taking into account AI tools that will be employed.

This game can attract forward thinkers who might have a relationship with President Xi (near and distant), who would also like to share their ideas with him.

All ideas entered will be sent to him, and the top 3 ideas will have a FaceTime call with President Xi, including myself.

My hope is that President Xi would be incentivized to connect due to his enthusiasm for what ideas might be created.

The relationships of each player to the president will be analyzed and presented as a graph to be used as a tool in order to reach him.

Inspiration

The core inspiration for this project came from a bizarre, hypothetical challenge: How many degrees of separation stand between me and a FaceTime call with President Xi Jinping? Living in an era of hyper-connectivity, I wanted to gamify the "Six Degrees of Separation" theory but with a high-stakes, geopolitical twist.

Since this hackathon is sponsored by the London School of Economics, I wanted to mix in the tension between global markets and state power. I wanted to create a fun, slightly satirical game that explores the networking gymnastics required to bridge the gap between an everyday individual and one of the world’s most powerful leaders.

What it Does

The Digital Manifesto is a narrative-driven networking simulator. Players must navigate a web of contacts—starting from a local barista and moving through corporate lobbyists, international diplomats, and party officials.

To add a layer of "spice" and academic rigor, I integrated Economic and Political Theory. Players must balance their "Capitalist Efficiency" (using money and markets to move fast) with "Socialist Harmony" (adhering to the collective goals and party doctrine).

How I Built It

I built the project using a mix of narrative branching and logic-based progression: ** Vibe Coding Tool Google Antigravity using MCP to perform Supabase DB tasks.

  • The Engine: I used a lightweight JavaScript framework to manage the "Influence" and "Capital" variables.
  • The Database: I used a Supabase as the backend.
  • The Narrative: I wrote the story arcs to reflect the 10-point plan of the Communist Manifesto, adapted into modern networking "quests."
  • The Mechanics: I utilized a graph database structure to map out the potential connections between the player and the ultimate goal: the FaceTime call.

Challenges I Faced

The biggest hurdle was the ideological balancing act. As a capitalist, it was a challenge to authentically represent the mechanics of the Communist Manifesto without making it a caricature. I had to ensure the political theory felt like a core gameplay mechanic rather than just "window dressing."

Mapping out the "Social Graph" was interesting. I had to ensure that the path to the President felt earned and that the "Six Degrees" logic held up under player scrutiny.

What I Learned

This project taught me that gamification can be a fun way to teach theory. By forcing players to engage with the Communist Manifesto to progress, the academic concepts became much more tangible.
