About the Project: PreShoot Inspiration

PreShoot was inspired by a problem I experienced firsthand from two different perspectives: as a content creator and as a commercial videographer.

I started creating content 6 years ago, and one challenge always remained every single day, knowing what to post. Coming up with ideas was difficult, but turning those ideas into structured videos with strong hooks, effective shots, and an editing strategy was even harder.

While working as a commercial videographer, I noticed businesses faced the exact same problem. Many businesses understood the importance of content and social media, but struggled to consistently create high-quality content because they did not have the time, expertise, or resources to hire a full marketing team.

This made me realize the problem was much bigger than just creators struggling with ideas. Both creators and businesses needed a way to turn everyday inspiration into professional content strategies.

Existing AI tools could generate ideas, but they often produced generic suggestions because they treated everyone the same. They lacked the context needed to understand a creator’s niche, audience, style, equipment, and goals.

I wanted to build an AI that did not just generate ideas, but acted like a creative partner.

That became PreShoot.

What I Built

PreShoot is an AI-powered creative director that helps creators and businesses go from idea to finished content.

Users can scan anything, from a product and coffee to a location or everyday object, and PreShoot transforms it into personalized, film-ready content ideas.

Instead of simply suggesting topics, PreShoot helps users understand:

  • What content to create
  • How to structure the video
  • What shots to capture
  • How to improve storytelling
  • How to adapt content for different platforms

PreShoot is designed to make professional-level content strategy accessible without needing a dedicated marketing team.

How I Built It

I built PreShoot as a web application using modern development tools and AI-assisted workflows.

The platform uses:

  • React for the frontend
  • Supabase for backend infrastructure and user data
  • Vercel for deployment
  • AI models for content generation and creative planning

The core of PreShoot is Director™, an AI creative intelligence designed to think like a professional creative director.

Rather than giving generic suggestions, Director™ builds a deeper understanding of each user and uses their context to create more practical and personalized content strategies.

Challenges

The biggest challenge was making AI outputs genuinely useful.

Early versions could generate ideas, but many suggestions felt generic and unrealistic. The challenge was not generating more ideas, it was creating ideas that people would actually film and use.

I learned that the value of AI comes from context.

By understanding the creator behind the content, including their audience, goals, equipment, and style, AI becomes significantly more useful.

Another challenge was building a complete product while balancing school, learning new technologies, and improving the platform through constant iteration.

What I Learned

Building PreShoot taught me that solving a problem requires looking beyond the obvious.

The obvious problem was:

"People need more content ideas."

But the deeper problem was:

"People need creative direction that understands their situation and helps them execute."

I learned:

  • Personalization is what makes AI truly useful.
  • Great products reduce friction and decision-making.
  • The best solutions come from personal experience with the problem.
  • Building quickly, testing, and improving is more valuable than waiting for perfection.

Through PreShoot, my goal is to help creators and businesses turn their ideas into professional content faster and more consistently.

What's Next for PreShoot

Our next step is to make PreShoot the complete creative operating system for creators and businesses.

We are focused on improving Director™, making it better at understanding each user's brand, audience, and creative style to generate even more personalized content strategies, as well as getting it onto the mobile App store.

We plan to expand PreShoot from idea generation into a full content workflow, helping users move from:

Inspiration → Idea → Planning → Filming → Editing → Publishing

Future improvements include deeper personalization, platform-specific optimization, collaboration tools for teams, and integrations that help businesses manage their entire content process.

Our long-term vision is to make professional-level creative direction accessible to anyone, whether they are a solo creator starting out or a business without a dedicated marketing team.
