Inspiration
We were inspired by how much time teachers spend taking attendance manually. Calling names, marking absences, and keeping records can take several minutes every class. We wanted to make this process automatic so teachers can focus more on teaching.
What We Learned
While building Presenza, we learned how facial recognition can be used for real-world automation, as well as how to design an AI system that works in the background with minimal user interaction.
How We Built It
Presenza uses facial recognition to identify students as they enter a classroom and automatically records their attendance. We also built a teacher dashboard where attendance records and absences can be reviewed.
Challenges
One of our biggest challenges was making the recognition process reliable while keeping attendance fast and simple. We also had to consider incorrect identifications and how to make the system useful without requiring teachers to constantly monitor it.
Overall, Presenza showed us how AI can automate a repetitive task and turn it into a faster, simpler experience.
