Inspiration

This project was inspired by providing a solution to the problem of users with medical constraints. There are users who have mobility limitations which causes them to have difficulty leaving their homes. PrescriptionCare allows them to order prescriptions online and have them delivered to their homes on a monthly or a weekly basis.

What it does

PrescriptionCare is a web app that allows users to order medical prescriptions online. Users can fill out a form and upload an image of their prescription in order to have their medication delivered to their homes. This app has a monthly subscription feature since most medications is renewed after 30 days, but also allows users to sign up for weekly subscriptions.

How we built it

We designed PrescriptionCare using Figma, and built it using Wix.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into several challenges, mainly due to our inexperience with hackathons and the programs and languages we used along the way. Initially, we wanted to create the website using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, however, we didn't end up going down that path, as it ended up being a bit too complicated because we were all beginners. We ended up choosing to use Wix due to its ease of use and excellent template selection to give us a solid base to build PrescriptionCare off of. We also ran into issues with an iOS app we tried to develop to complement the website, mainly due to learning Swift and SwiftUI, which is not very beginner friendly.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Managing to create a website in just a few hours and being able to work with a great team. Some the members of this team also had to learn new software in just a few hours which was also a challenge, but this experience is a good one and we'll be much more prepared for our next hackathon. We are proud to have experimented with two new tools thanks to this application. We were able to draft a website through Wix and create an app through xCode and SwiftUI. Another accomplishment is that our team consists of first-time hackers, so we are proud to have started the journey of hacking and cannot wait to see what is waiting for us in the future.

What we learned

We learned how to use the Wix website builder for the first time and also how to collaborate together as a team. We don't really know each other and happened to meet at the competition and will probably work together at another hackathon in the future. We learned a positive mindset is another important asset to bring into a hackathon. At first, we felt intimidated by hackathons, but we are thankful to have learned that hackathons can be fun and a priceless learning experience.

What's next for PrescriptionCare

It would be nice to be able to create a mobile app so that users can get updates and notifications when their medication arrives. We could create a tracking system that keeps track of the medication you take and estimates when the user finishes their medication. PrescriptionCare will continue to expand and develop its services to reach more audience. We hope to bring more medication and subscription plans for post-secondary students who live away from home, at-home caretakers, and more, and we aim to bring access to medicine to everyone. Our next goal is to continue developing our website and mobile app (both android and IOS), as well as collect data of pharmaceutical drugs and their usage. We hope to make our app a more diverse, and inclusive app, with a wide variety of medication and delivery methods.
