Inspiration
We wanted to make a small, joyful experience that turns ordinary typing into something musical and playful. The idea grew from the feeling that creativity can be sparked by tiny, unexpected rewards — a note, a sparkle, a soft rhythm — every time you press a key.
What it does
Prelude to Chaos transforms typing into a live jam: each keystroke creates a short sound and a floating visual note. Users can pick different instrument voices and explore textures as they type, turning writing, practicing, or doodling into an improvised musical moment.
How we built it
We focused on the user experience: a friendly, colorful interface with rounded controls and playful animations. The interactions are designed to feel immediate and responsive so that typing becomes an expressive, musical act.
Challenges we ran into
Balancing sound and subtlety was tricky — we wanted the output to feel lively without overwhelming the listener. Making every keystroke feel expressive while avoiding chaotic noise required tuning volumes, note lengths, and when to play sounds.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We created an experience that makes plain typing feel delightful and musical. The combination of visual feedback and responsive tones invites exploration and improvisation, and people immediately get the playful vibe.
What we learned
Small interactions can have big emotional impact. Thoughtful sound design and gentle visuals can turn routine tasks into joyful moments. Also, pacing — the tiny variations in volume and timing — matters a lot for feel.
What's next for Prelude to Chaos
We hope to add more expressive instrument options, richer visual themes, and collaborative modes where multiple people can type together and create shared soundscapes. The core idea is simple and can grow in many playful directions.
