Inspiration
"A Land Before RowdyHacks". Dinosaurs are the dominant species all across the world and almost nothing can stop them. Almost nothing. If the Dinosaur is alone, and infinite number of cavemen can stop it eventually, right? Play as a lonely Dinosaur trying to survive against endless wave of cavemen. It's only chance of survival, a weird metal object that Rowdysaurus had found on the ground that stopped the cavemen with one hit. How did it get there? Who cares! Can you stop them before they overwhelm you?
What it does
This game is the ultimate survival game made in under 24 Hours! Simple goal, Do not let the cavemen kill you. Use your arrow keys to move around and let the cavemen get close so you can BLAST them away. But don't let it get to close or else you'll start taking damage too.
How we built it
Using the amazing open source game engine, Godot, and its built in programming language, GDscript, we created this unique program. Our team was unfamiliar with how to work with GDscript and Godot but it was a challenge we were ready to tackle.
Challenges we ran into
Most of our time was spent learning how to create a game in Godot due to our inexperience, and we persevered through our limited time to the best of our abilities. Another major challenge we faced was cooperating through GitHub, as this was all of our first interaction with coding cooperation through GitHub we all had. Pushing our code would always lead to many errors and sometimes wouldn't prevent us from even pushing our code, causing major problems with our program.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Learning how to fully create a game from scratch with Godot was an amazing learning experience. Merging our separate file into GitHub was the biggest challenge we have ever faced and costed us a lot of time but in the end we were able to succeed in our project.
What we learned
We have all achieved a major insight on how to use Godot for 2D games and working as a team through GitHub with the highest accomplishment of finishing what we started how we want it to be.
What's next for Prehistoric Rowdy: Attack!
Well, only the passing of era's will show us what truly happened to poor old Rowdysaurus Rex. Polishing the game would be a nice way to come back to this project, as 24 hours did not give a lot of time to make this idea shine. Other than that, this was more of a learning experience for our group to grow from, so it could help us in our future creations.
