What we learned## Inspiration

PreFlood was inspired by the need for faster and smarter flood warnings. Traditional alerts may warn people about flooding, but they often do not tell individuals how much time they have to evacuate or where they should go.

What We Built

PreFlood is an intelligent flood early-warning and emergency evacuation system. It analyzes rainfall, water levels, terrain, sensor/satellite data, and historical information to identify flood risk. It calculates a person’s “Survival Window”—the estimated time before floodwater reaches their location—and compares it with evacuation time.

The system provides personalized alerts, danger-zone identification, safe shelters, evacuation routes, SOS support, and rescue-team escalation when an alert is not acknowledged.

What We Learned

We learned how to combine AI-based prediction, location services, mapping, databases, emergency alerts, and user-centered design to build a practical emergency response system.

What's next for preflood

Next, PreFlood will focus on improving prediction accuracy with real-time sensor data, adding landslide detection, integrating live maps and dynamic evacuation routes, strengthening offline/SMS alerts, and testing the Survival Window with real-world data for reliable emergency response.
