Inspiration

This project came from noticing how disease outbreaks can spread quickly and cause serious harm before authorities have a chance to respond. Traditional health monitoring can be slow, and with more data available today than ever, it felt like a real opportunity to use AI to make early detection smarter and faster.

What it does

PredictHealth AI looks at different types of information—like social media chatter, environmental sensors, and health reports—to spot signs that a disease outbreak might be starting. It then sends alerts to health workers and communities so they can take action before things get worse.

How we built it

We started by gathering data from many places, including social media and government health databases. Then, we used language processing to pick out health-related discussions and applied machine learning to identify patterns that might predict an outbreak. Along the way, we built a simple dashboard so users could see real-time alerts and understand what was happening. The process was hands-on and iterative, making improvements as we tested.

Challenges we ran into

Getting accurate and timely data wasn’t easy, especially filtering out misinformation online. Making sure the predictions were useful without being overwhelming took a lot of trial and error. We also wanted to keep the user interface clear and straightforward for people with different levels of tech knowledge.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re proud that our system can combine very different data sources into one picture, and provide early warnings that could help stop outbreaks early. Also, the dashboard turned out to be very helpful for visualizing trends clearly. Building a system that can scale and adapt to different regions was an important achievement for us.

What we learned

We learned that creating AI solutions for health isn’t just about the technology—it needs good data, expert input, and understanding the real context. We also realized how important it is to design tools that people will trust and actually use.

What's next for PredictHealth AI

Moving forward, we want to refine the model with even more data and make it easier to understand why the system gives certain alerts. We’re also looking at partnerships with health organizations to try the system in real settings and improve it based on feedback.
