Inspiration

The inspiration for Preço Perto comes from the growing frustration consumers face when grocery shopping due to a lack of clear information about prices, queues, and store locations. The app aims to simplify the shopping experience by providing real-time data on prices and store occupancy, enabling consumers to make more informed and efficient choices. Additionally, the team is motivated to participate in initiatives like TecStorm to further develop the application and gain more validation for the product. Being part of such an initiative will allow us to refine our app, expand its capabilities, and continue addressing the real needs of our target audience.

What it does

Preço Perto is a mobile application that aggregates information about product prices, store occupancy, and store locations to help consumers find the best shopping experience. It offers features like price comparisons, discovering cheaper and less crowded local stores, and planning more efficient shopping trips.

How we built it

The Preço Perto app is currently being developed as an MVP using Android Studio, leveraging XML for the user interface design and Java for the app's functionality. Python is being used to gather real-time price data from various supermarkets, which will be integrated into the app. The MVP is still under development and will allow us to test our core features with real users. Through this early version, we aim to validate the concept, gather feedback, and refine the app before fully launching it.

Challenges we ran into

The main challenges faced in building the app include obtaining accurate and real-time data about product prices in various stores and establishing partnerships with local supermarkets to ensure reliable data. Additionally, developing a sustainable business model and scaling the service are critical points.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

One of the proudest achievements of Preço Perto is creating a data aggregation system that allows consumers to view detailed, real-time information about prices, queues, and store locations in a single app, offering a personalized and local experience. Partnerships with local businesses and large supermarket chains are also a significant step in expanding the data coverage.

What we learned

We have validated the idea through public surveys and feedback forms, gathering valuable insights from potential users. This process allowed us to refine the product's features and ensure we are addressing the real needs of our target audience. We learned that there is strong interest in real-time price comparisons and the ability to find less crowded and cheaper stores, confirming the need for a service like Preço Perto.

What's next for Preço Perto

The next step for Preço Perto is to launch the MVP, which is currently under development. This early version will allow us to test our core features with real users, gather additional feedback, and start building partnerships with supermarkets and local businesses. Once the MVP is live, we plan to iterate on the feedback and gradually expand the app's functionalities.

Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

Preço Perto is designed to align with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), contributing to positive social, economic, and environmental impacts. The app supports Goal 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth by helping local businesses thrive, providing them with a platform to increase their visibility and reach consumers. This fosters economic growth in local communities and empowers small businesses to compete with larger supermarket chains. Additionally, Preço Perto contributes to Goal 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure by utilizing modern technology to aggregate and analyze real-time price data from various supermarkets. This innovation creates a more efficient and transparent shopping ecosystem, which enhances the retail sector’s infrastructure. The app also helps achieve Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities by promoting more sustainable urban living. It allows users to find local stores, reducing unnecessary travel and promoting shopping closer to home. This not only saves time but also reduces energy consumption and congestion in urban areas. Furthermore, Preço Perto supports Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production by providing consumers with the tools to make informed decisions about where and how they shop. By promoting the efficient use of resources, it encourages responsible consumption habits, helps reduce food waste, and ensures that consumers access the right products at the right prices. Lastly, the app contributes to Goal 13: Climate Action by reducing the need for long-distance travel to supermarkets. By guiding users to nearby stores and promoting local businesses, Preço Perto helps lower carbon emissions associated with transportation, supporting more sustainable shopping behaviors.
