Inspiration
Precision Health Navigator was born from a simple, painful insight: every year millions of Japanese receive a comprehensive health-check report that quietly dies in a desk drawer. Family members with borderline HbA1c or creeping LDL missed the window for early intervention because no one translated scores into concrete next-day actions. We asked ourselves, “What if uploading a PDF could immediately create a doctor booking and a daily plan that people want to follow?” That question—plus Japan’s 2025 national health-data platform rollout—sparked the project.
What it does
Upload & Parse – Drag-and-drop a health-check PDF/CSV; our OCR + FHIR engine extracts >400 lab values in seconds. Risk Scoring – Bayesian networks and XGBoost models calculate personalised risk for seven major lifestyle diseases. One-Click Follow-up – The app reserves the optimal secondary exam slot at partner hospitals and syncs it to your calendar. Daily Action Coach – Behaviour-science driven tasks (meal swap, 15-min walk, sleep cue) appear each morning and sync with Apple Health / Google Fit. Progress & Incentives – Execution rates unlock insurance premium rebates and friendly competitions to keep users engaged.
How we built it

Challenges we ran into
Wild-West Lab Codes – Every clinic labelled tests differently; building a canonical ontology took three sprints and nightly calls with pathologists. Clinician Trust – Hospitals hesitated until we exposed SHAP explanations and an MD-governed rules DSL. Habit Fatigue (Week 3 Dip) – Churn spiked after day 21; social nudges (team step challenges) halved dropout. Dual Privacy Regimes – Running pilots in Japan and the U.S. forced a dual-stack consent and pseudonymisation model. Latency vs. Explainability – Generating SHAP values added 30 ms; rewriting the explainer in Rust cut it by 60 %.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
1,200 beta users from three corporate health-insurance unions onboarded in 90 days. 18 partner hospitals accepting instant secondary-exam bookings. 14 % reduction in predicted 5-year cardiovascular risk among active users after 90 days. SOC 2 Type I audit passed on the first attempt. Open-sourced our FHIR-JP lab-code ontology, now starred 500+ times on GitHub.
What we learned
Data without behaviour is noise. Seamless action pipelines matter more than perfect scores. Transparent, clinician-editable algorithms accelerate medical-institution buy-in. Tiny gamification—streak counters, emoji praise—boosts adherence more than fancy dashboards. Designing the consent UX first saves months when regulations change mid-build.
What's next for Precision Health Navigator
Clinical Trial (n = 5,000) – Validate long-term impact on HbA1c and hypertension control. Insurance API GA – Plug directly into premium-rebate engines for six major life insurers. Voice & TV Apps – Age-friendly interfaces for seniors who avoid smartphones. APAC Expansion – Localise for Singapore & Taiwan; incorporate multilingual LLM coaching. Research Marketplace – Anonymised, consented datasets for pharma R&D with revenue-share to users.
