Inspiration

PreciousCare AI was inspired by the number of first-time caregivers who feel uncertain about their pregnancies, newborn care and responsibilities. New mothers often have so many questions that they have to ask while they are expecting, regarding how to take care of their newborn baby, and even what they should do or should not do in this family. Meanwhile, other caregivers, such as single parents, may have concerns such as, How do I take care of a new baby? Can I do this? Can I love and care for another family member as well?

As a result of these questions, I decided to develop a companion that will support the caregiver to build their confidence, instead of being overwhelmed. PreciousCare AI is for all types of caregivers – parents, single parents, grandparents, family members. It isn't role specific; all carers need useful advice and assistance.

The name, “PreciousCare AI”, represents that each child is precious and every care journey must be accompanied by compassion, confidence and reliable guidance. I wanted to develop an AI friend to help families at one of their most sweet moments, alongside, not instead of clinical medical advice.

What it does

PreciousCare AI is an AI-powered parenting guide for multi-lingual parents and their children, pregnancy to early childhood. It consolidates educational counseling, care tools and cultural materials in an easy-to-use application.

The app starts with a guided onboarding process, which enables users to choose their language, their role as carer, and their stage of pregnancy or child development. With this information, the home dashboard displays pertinent resources and shortcuts.

With the OpenAI Responses API at its core, the AI Assistant responds to parenting questions, clarifies common methods of care, and offers educational information, encouraging users to seek professional medical attention in emergencies or when making diagnosis and treatment decisions.

The app also features a Care Planner to help organize parent care tasks, My Notes to store helpful AI responses for later, and a multilingual Educational Library full of articles, animated lessons, developmental milestones and general vaccination resources.

One of PreciousCare AI's unique features is the Family Traditions section, which presents regional cultural customs associated with pregnancy, childbirth and early childcare. This helps families receive information about traditions and ensures that the information they receive is based on the medical evidence, and not the tradition.

Accessibility is considered in application design, with 12 languages of interfaces to choose from, responsive application layout, keyboard navigation and reduced motion support available, and a guided first-time user experience to ensure that caregivers from a variety of backgrounds will be at ease using the application.

In the end, the PreciousCare AI is designed to make it easier, more organized and more confident for caregivers during some of the most precious moments of their lives.

How we built it

We have developed PreciousCare AI with Next, React, TypeScript and Tailwind CSS, keeping the app responsive and usable from desktop and mobile. The AI Assistant uses the OpenAI Responses API, and also consists of a settable Demo Mode that permits the software to be explored without an energetic API link.

Throughout development, Codex was an engineering partner. I utilized it for the implementation and refinement of application features, improving project structure, debugging application issues, enhancing ease of access and improving the UI. Multilingual onboarding, the AI Assistant, Care Planner, My Notes, session-based chat persistence, Family Traditions, the Educational Library, and animated lessons were all created in a collaborative process with Codex.

We used the OpenAI Responses API to bring the conversational intelligence that powers the AI Assistant into the product vision, tune the UI/UX, optimize prompts and review implementation choices and deliver the AI Assistant's responses using GPT-5.6.

I made all the product decisions during the project, although the AI tools helped me speed up the development process. Designated the purpose of this application, I chose and prioritized features, tested each implementation, reviewed generated code, requested corrections as necessary and ensured final product was in line with purpose of creating a safe and multilingual educational companion for caregivers.

The app underwent iterative testing through linting, build and manual testing, and was finally deployed on Vercel in a stable, tested version to showcase.

Challenges we ran into

Balancing AI-driven guidance with appropriate educational material and preventing the inclusion of medical claims was one of the main challenges. We handled issues such as browser autoplay restrictions, consistency of the interface across 12 different languages, responsive design and preserving the privacy of the user, using browser-based storage instead of user accounts.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

It was a great pleasure to have built such a comprehensive multilingual AI parenting assistant from concept to deployment in a hackathon. We successfully incorporated GPT-5.6, developed a user-friendly and responsive interface, and added the ability to support 12 interface languages, and integrated AI guidance with useful tools like Care Planner, My Notes, an Educational Library and Family Traditions. First and foremost, we created a product that can help all caregivers with confidence, compassion, and with reliable education.

What we learned

Building PreciousCare AI taught us that creating a successful AI application is about much more than integrating a language model. We learned the importance of clear prompt design, iterative collaboration with Codex, accessibility, multilingual user experiences, responsible AI safety, privacy-first design, and continuously testing and refining features based on real user scenarios.

What's next for PreciousCare AI

Our next goal is to expand PreciousCare AI with more educational content, additional Family Traditions from different regions, richer animated lessons, and optional personalized reminders. We also plan to introduce optional user accounts with secure cloud synchronization, offline access for essential resources, and continuously improve the AI Assistant with feedback from caregivers while keeping safety, privacy, and accessibility at the center of the experience.
