Inspiration: Reclaiming the Soul of Yoga
There is a widening gap in the digital yoga world. The most authentic teachers—those with the deepest, most rooted knowledge—are being marginalized by a digital landscape that prioritizes performative content over substantial teaching. The Struggle: India’s most skilled practitioners are falling behind simply because they lack the technical resources and business infrastructure to compete with viral marketing influencers. The Injustice: We are losing the transmission of authentic wisdom because the people who know it best cannot afford to make it visible. The Vision: Prana Nexus was born from the belief that authentic teaching should not be gated by technical proficiency or financial privilege. We are building the infrastructure that allows true mentors to thrive, taking the weight of technology off their shoulders so they can focus on what they do best: transmitting knowledge. We are not just digitizing yoga; we are leveling the playing field for the world’s most authentic teachers.
What it does
Prana Nexus is an AI-powered teaching ecosystem designed to restore the human connection in remote learning. AI Class Assistant: An intelligent monitor that supports the teacher in real-time, helping them manage class flow and student needs. AI Class Monitor: While a teacher can only watch a few people at once, our AI monitor watches everyone. It detects posture and form errors in real-time, sending personalized messages to students who need guidance. It logs this activity for the instructor, providing an "at-a-glance" summary of which students are excelling and which ones need specific, data-driven attention. Real-time Student Spotlight: When a teacher calls a student's name, the AI identifies them and highlights their video feed, allowing for precise, immediate form correction. Personalized Insights: Post-class, the system generates custom summaries for students, highlighting areas for improvement and providing video-guided corrections. Holistic Onboarding: Our intake system captures health goals, physical trauma, and lifestyle data so teachers can provide safe, tailored guidance from day one.
How we built it
We focused on creating a high-fidelity experience using a lightweight, performant stack: Frontend: Built with Next.js and Tailwind CSS for a clean, professional, and responsive user interface. Browser API Integration: We utilized the navigator.mediaDevices API to enable native camera access, creating an immersive "live class" feel without requiring complex third-party infrastructure. Client-Side State: To simulate a production-ready application within hackathon time constraints, we used localStorage to handle user onboarding and state management, providing a seamless, personalized experience without the need for a persistent database.
Challenges we ran into
The "Real-time" Gap: Building reliable WebRTC-based video conferencing is a massive engineering undertaking. We solved this by focusing on a simulated live experience using high-quality video loops and absolute-positioned UI overlays, which allowed us to showcase the product vision without the risk of system crashes. Browser Security: We hit walls with camera permissions on non-secure environments. Moving our deployment to a secure HTTPS environment via Vercel was the key to unlocking the "wow factor" of the self-view camera. Balancing Scope: We had to decide between building "features" versus building "value." We learned that a polished onboarding experience is far more valuable to judges than a buggy implementation of a complex backend.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The "Wow" Factor: Successfully integrated browser-native camera access, allowing us to demonstrate a "live" classroom experience that feels professional, immediate, and high-tech without requiring complex external video infrastructure. Seamless Onboarding: Built a personalized user journey where the intake process (goals, health, lifestyle) directly populates the user's dashboard, creating a "sticky" experience that feels like a fully mature product. Visionary Clarity: We successfully transformed a complex set of features—AI monitoring, student spotlighting, and health tracking—into a unified product narrative that stays true to our mission of empowering authentic teachers. Design Cohesion: Achieved a consistent, calm, and professional UI design that reflects the "Prana Nexus" identity, ensuring the tech feels like an extension of the yoga practice, not a distraction from it. What we learned Simulated vs. Real: We learned that in a hackathon, showing the vision of a feature is often more powerful than spending hours debugging a brittle backend. We learned to prioritize the "user experience loop" to keep the demo stable and impressive. Browser-Native Power: We discovered how effective simple browser APIs (navigator.mediaDevices) are for creating interactive experiences, proving that you don't always need massive frameworks to build something "live." Founder-Market Fit: By rooting our project in the real-world struggles of Indian yoga teachers, we learned that the most compelling pitches are those that solve a human problem we have witnessed ourselves. Scope Management: We realized that building a "complete" onboarding experience is far more valuable to a judge than building a half-finished, buggy backend.
What's next for Prana Nexus
Moving from Simulation to Inference: Replacing our simulated UI overlays with actual computer vision models capable of analyzing posture and form in real-time. The Teacher Portal: Building out the "Instructor Dashboard" to allow teachers to manage classes, view student health summaries, and access the "AI Monitor" logs to see which students need specific attention. Persistent Infrastructure: Moving from localStorage to a secure backend database (e.g., Supabase or Firebase) to safely store student health data, trauma histories, and long-term progress logs. Global Access: Refining our Google Meet integration and class scheduling library to allow teachers to host and manage sessions from anywhere in the world, finally giving them the tools to monetize their authentic knowledge.
