Inspiration
We noticed that many musicians struggle to stay consistent and get objective feedback when practicing alone at home. We wanted to create a tool that uses generative AI to act as a patient, expert tutor available any time. Our goal was to bridge the gap between digital tutorials and physical instrument mastery.
What it does
PracticePilot allows users to engage in voice-guided music sessions through the Alexa+ interface. The system analyzes user progress, suggests specific exercises, and provides verbal critiques based on performance data. It transforms static practice music into a dynamic, AI-driven learning journey.
How we built it
We built the backend using Python and deployed the service using aws-app-runner for scalable compute. We integrated amazon-bedrock to handle natural language reasoning and crewai to orchestrate complex coaching workflows. The user interface is powered by amazon-alexa, ensuring seamless voice interaction.
Challenges we ran into
We faced significant challenges managing the latency between the AI reasoning and the voice response to keep conversations natural. We also had to refine the crewai agents to ensure the musical advice remained technically accurate and encouraging. Tuning the prompts in amazon-bedrock took several iterations to get the tone right.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We successfully implemented a multi-agent system that can simulate a music teacher's thought process. We are proud of how smoothly the Alexa+ integration handles complex conversational flows. Achieving a stable deployment on aws-app-runner was a major milestone for our team.
What we learned
We learned a lot about orchestrating autonomous AI agents to handle specific domain logic like music theory. We also gained deep insights into optimizing Python-based microservices for voice-first user experiences. This project deepened our understanding of how to combine LLMs with practical utility tools.
What's next for PracticePilot
We plan to integrate direct audio analysis capabilities to provide even more granular feedback on pitch and rhythm. We also hope to expand the library of exercises to cover more instruments. Our vision is to make PracticePilot the essential companion for every modern musician.
