Inspiration

Studies show that candidates from traditionally marginalized backgrounds often hesitate to apply unless they meet all job description requirements. At PPMM (Planned Parenthood Mar Monte), valuing each employee's uniqueness, they encourage applicants to apply, even if they don't meet all criteria, and offer support ranging from resume reviews to mock interviews. However, the existing support system is currently hidden on their site. Interestingly, PPMM has found that their support system, particularly through webinars, attracts the most applicants. Webinars have proven effective, providing face-to-face interaction, support, and encouragement to enhance the applicant experience. Therefore, we have chosen to prioritize showcasing this support system as a central feature on their website.

What we did

  1. We initially overhauled the careers homepage since the majority of applicants apply online. Knowing that webinars are successful in attracting more applicants, we added the CTA button for applicants to schedule a webinar session above the fold, secondary to the main CTA which is to apply for jobs. We introduced a timeline for early career clinician applications to help applicants visualize and plan their careers, and most importantly, to let college seniors know that they can apply while still in school with a conditional offer. Additionally, we redefined the value proposition by focusing on what early career applicants care about when applying for a job.

  2. We added a feature to highlight a central support system for applicants. This system enables applicants to schedule sessions with PPMM staff members at any point during their job application process. These sessions provide valuable services such as resume feedback and practice mock interviews. Additionally, applicants can conveniently upload their resume and share it with a preferred staff member, providing flexibility for those with time constraints.

How we built it

We designed our solution on Figma.

Challenges we ran into

Our ambition led us to attempt to build more features for the app than we could realistically handle in a short time frame. Racing against time, we realized that focusing on the most crucial features helped us narrow our scope and complete what was feasible. Despite facing disagreements on certain topics, the emphasis on prioritizing essential features allowed us to navigate challenges and make progress.

What's next for PPMM Clinician Application Support

We hope to be able to test our high-fidelity designs and continue to iterate!
