Inspiration
- Malaysian students in Korea face scattered communication channels.
- Event updates often get lost across platforms — emails buried in spam, KakaoTalk chats quickly disappearing.
- Elections lack a transparent and trusted voting system.
- Volunteering applications rely on Google Forms, leaving the selection process open to bias.
- We envisioned a modern, central hub to connect students, streamline activities, and build trust.
What it does
- Provides a verified student-only platform (via student ID).
- Shares events, bulletins, and RSVP systems through a clean, user-friendly interface.
- Hosts forums for universities and topics (food, housing, marketplace, pets).
- Features 대나무숲 (Bamboo Forest): anonymous posting inspired by Korean folklore.
- Offers a Q&A page for peer-to-peer knowledge sharing.
- Profiles showcase achievement badges, contributions, and roles.
- Generates unique QR codes for attendance tracking at PPMK events.
- Enables transparent AGM voting with AI support:
- Live voting tracker for accountability.
- AI recommender to suggest suitable committee roles.
- Ability to rate and compare candidates for fairer evaluations.
- Live voting tracker for accountability.
How we built it
- Designed a modern, dark-themed website with clean accents.
- Added a left-side navigation bar with emoji icons for smooth navigation.
- Built an account system with email + student ID verification.
- Created an event bulletin with interactive info cards and RSVP options.
- Linked profiles with event participation, showing badges and roles.
- Developed an AI-powered voting system for secure, transparent, and enhanced elections.
Challenges we ran into
- Designing an interface that feels both professional and Gen Z-friendly.
- Balancing fun visuals (emojis, pixel-style) with readability and accessibility.
- Building a trusted voting mechanism that stays simple to use.
- Ensuring smooth navigation and user flow across all features.
- Implementing a feasible QR-based attendance system.
Accomplishments we’re proud of
- Created a central hub for all PPMK members.
- Blended Malaysian community needs with Korean student culture (대나무숲).
- Designed a transparent, AI-enhanced election system.
- Built a platform that is modern, engaging, and inclusive.
- Introduced QR-based attendance verification for events.
What we learned
- The value of designing with cultural context in mind (Korean + Malaysian elements).
- The importance of verification and trust in student communities.
- How to make platforms more engaging through gamification (badges, roles, contribution stats).
- The impact of clear UI/UX design in encouraging participation and retention.
What’s next for PPMK가자
- Official launch and onboarding across multiple universities.
- Add more event management tools (e.g., ticketing, reminders, notifications).
- Expand the badge system into a full gamified contribution tracker.
- Develop a mobile app version for better accessibility.
- Explore DAO-style governance for future student association decision-making.
