Inspiration

As a team of avid gamers, we were immediately drawn to the idea of the potion-based data analysis and network tool that evokes the charm of a classic video game environment. inspired by the whimsical illustrations of witchy worlds, Minecraft potion bottles, and the overall theme of HackUTD 2025, we set out to create a pixel-art themed dashboard. Our goal was to make something that is purely graphs and charts and present it in a way that is magical and visually captivating for the user while balancing aesthetics with functionality.

What it does

PoyoLabs is a gamified dashboard that allows users to track and monitor multiple cauldrons (data points) from one hand-designed interface. This incorporates additional tools such as a trained AI agent, a network map, historical playbacks, and optimized routes to provide greater insight and control over the ever-bubbling potions.

How we built it

We built PoyoLabs using Python and Flask for the backend to manage communication between data and the user interface. The front-end was crafted with HTML, CSS, and JS with custom-designed pixel-art graphics and animations to bring the magical, game-like feel to life. We also incorporated NVIDIA's Nemetron to enhance our chatbot's intelligence and responsiveness. Every visual element from potion bottles to cauldron animations was hand-made to fit our playful, game-inspired aesthetic.

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges was integrated the autonomous chatbot smoothly into our Flask-based environment while keeping the interface lightweight and interactive. There were also a couple of issues we faced during our front-end development when we were trying to maintain that our animations were fluid while making sure all the information was clear and visible. Finally, hosting a function web app with multiple moving components and transitions pushed us to learn more about deployment and static site configurations.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are very proud of creating a functional, visually cohesive dashboard that not only looks magical but also works with a game-type feel. The combination of custom art, animations, and a responsive chatbot made our project stand out. We are also proud of our teamwork and ability to blend design and technical functionality to create something that gamifies data analysis.

What we learned

We learned a lot about web hosting beyond basic platforms, including how to deploy Flask apps and manage APIs for interactive dashboards. We also deepened our understanding of front-end animation with responsive design and integrating AI agents into a user interface. This experience has taught us how to genuinely combine creativity and technology to make tools that are meant to display functionality and be fun to use.

What's next for PoyoLabs

Moving forward, we plan to expand our dashboard's capabilities by refining the hierarchy of our autonomous chatbots to hand more complex interactions. We want to also improve our UI/UX to make a data visualization more efficent while keeping the same gamified, whimsical feel. Additionally, we hope to add more detail and interactivity to our HTML components and introduction more dynamic potion effects to make PoyoLabs more of a game-world experience.
