Inspiration

We were inspired by the idea of creating a superhero-based program, and quickly the idea of a game came to us. The three of us have never worked with creating a game before and thought this would be a good chance to try to branch out and create a web-based game.

What it does

PowerUp is a web-based application that simulates a competitive card game. The cards are based on Marvel heroes and villains, each with their own stats, description, and image that was pulled from the public Marvel database API.

How we built it

The program was primarily developed using JavaScript and displayed/ran through CSS and HTML. The graphic design was created through the use of Figma before being translated into CSS and HTML code.

Challenges we ran into

Besides one member in the group, none of us knew how to use Figma, and had little to no experience working in any of the three languages we used. Along with this, translating the Figma representation into a fully working website was a challenge due to the lack of experience.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Within two days, we were able to assemble a working online card game despite having very little experience with web-based programming languages. We were able to learn Javascript, Figma, HTML, and CSS within a day.

What we learned

Two of us had learned the basics of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, and the other had further advanced his skills in said languages.

What's next for PowerUp

It has a chance to become the passion project that we will contribute to in our free time, but due to the nature of its use of an API and the properties of a trademark company, it will likely remain as just that: a passion project.
