Inspiration
During my time at my previous workplace, I have had female colleagues who have to apply for urgent leave (sometimes, over an extended period) to take care their sick child. [If they are aware of the availability of help, they would be able to show up at work and perform.]
In my circle of friends, many of my female friends are doubtful of their investment abilities. [If they are aware of the simplicity and benefits of investments, they would have to work less and do more of what they enjoy.]
Many find it difficult to find reliable tuition teachers. [If search time for tuition teachers is reduced, mothers can spend more time with their child.]
What it does
Power Up, Ladies! is a mobile-app platform designed for ladies as a one-stop platform to access a curated set of resources. The target audiences are females, and especially new/single mothers (who have to juggle an additional set of responsibilities where support seems limited)
In short, reduce unnecessary time spent, increase time spent on building dreams.
How I built it
A beginner's lesson to MIT App Inventor organised by Code for Asia, Youtube Videos, and Google Searches.
Challenges I ran into
Being an ambitious person yet new to coding, I took a period of time to eliminate and simplify my ideas. Also, tried to dabble into unexplored areas and missing the deadline just so I could make it happen!
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I did this, and managed to capture data input via Google Forms!
What I learned
- The situation of gender inequality in Singapore
- Improvisational skills
- Numerous possibilities with MIT App Inventor
What's next for Power up, ladies!
- Capture more goals of females, and then identify resources to help them with achieving it
- More handpicked babysitters, tutors, etc.
- More articles on how to manage time better albeit the numerous activities to juggle with
