Inspiration

As an individual or when with a group of friends, we always like to eat delicious foods. However, living in bigger cities, there are many places to eat and it is always hard to decide. What do we do?

Use an app that helps us decide.

With Potpourri, we can decide not only by submitting forms based on preferences, but also based on images! When you see a pizza vs a butter chicken dish, which one do you want to eat? I think this helps us much more in deciding.

However, the most important part is that this helps us explore different cultures of the world.

What it does

This app has 3 main features.

First feature is the homepage, where you browse a bunch of randomly generated images and/or restaurants that might interest you. Find images you're interested in, and you can easily see more about that type of cuisine.

Second feature is the search form. Filter out your preferences (i.e. dietary restrictions, type of food, price range, distance from current location) to get a narrow-scoped list of restaurants.

Third feature is the random image generator, where 4 images of random foods are generated. Pick the one you like, or refresh the search. Once tapped, it opens a list of restaurants that should offer that dish (in development).

How we built it

Android Studio.

Challenges we ran into

It took time to differentiate our app from currently-existing "food-finding" apps.
