Inspiration

Most of us have encountered potholes and hoped that the city would fix it. According to one estimate pothole damage costs drivers 6.4 billion a year. Often, the city may not have complete information on where the potholes are, and which ones affect drivers the most.

What it does

Pothole tracker is an app that helps you to track and share road data, which then gets uploaded to a back-end where we run our algorithms to identify both potholes and smooth roads, and show it on a map

How I built it

We built an android app to log the accelerometer data. We built a python API to store the accelerometer data.
For the analysis and algorithm development, we used R.

Challenges I ran into

There were both technical challenges with how the app interfaces with the back-end, as also those with the algorithm to identify potholes.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

Building something that will be valuable to help direct infrastructure funds to where it is needed most, and also make our cities better!
