Inspiration

We wanted to work together on a project and had a vague idea of an app we wanted to create. Then we came across this challenge and it seemed like a perfect opportunity to kickstart our idea!

What it does

Our app scans users posture in a variety of stretches and poses using AI technology to track their positioning and record their natural stance and posture. Then it gives them workouts based on their results and is customized for their ability and needs. The whole process is gamified to keep it fun, keep users consistent, and done so to build community along the way.

How we built it

We used Figma as our main interface for our prototype. Throughout the process, we conducted user research such as surveys and interviews, using ChatGPT for quantitative and fellow students in a UX bootcamp for qualitative results, we were able to get a great balance of research.

Challenges we ran into

Creating an app from scratch we ran into some design challenges. We had to make sure to keep the interface clean and consistent with the brand while keeping our user research and needs top of mind. For example, we wanted a more "personal trainer" like AI program to run through workouts with users. However, after conducting the research with the users and studying their needs for the program, we found the AI trainer to be unnecessary for the best version of our application.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Stepping outside of professional comfort zones was big. We had a team of two, one Graphic Designer and one UX Designer, and we both stepped up to wear multiple hats for this hackathon. Our submitted case study and YouTube trailer are both pieces of work we're very proud of.

Another thing we are super proud of is our work on this project outside of the hackathon. We made multiple social media accounts for Posturology and posted throughout the competition. As we mention many times in our case study, building community is important to us, so in order make this a reality, we held a few Friday night socials in the lounge of the discord. We advertised them a day or so before we would be on so that we could meet our peers and make new friends.

What we learned

We learned that it takes a lot of time, work, and effort for a simple app to come together. We both now have a new appreciation for simple and innovative technology that we lacked before this. Throughout this project, we ran into many issues along the way but learned to troubleshoot and work as a team in an effective manner to keep the project on track for this hackathon.

What's next for Posturology

Now that the XR Design Challenge is complete, we are excited to continue to work on this project and grow this as a brand in 2025! Our next steps for this app are to create a new and improved prototype that incorporates research we will gain from professionals in regard to mobility and spine alignment along with creating exercises that will further relieve back pain. By the end of 2025, we want to have a product on the app store and marketplace for users to download.

We also want to expand the app in regard to community. Community is an important value to us as creators and as a business. Expanding this app and having multiple opportunities for people to connect is something we will continue to work on, whether we create an option to invite friends or organize the leadership board by geolocation, this is going to be a big steppingstone for this application.

Our gamification system is another area we want to further develop. This is a huge factor in helping people create habits and having multiple options and variety will only help our end user. This will be another research point in 2025 that we are excited to dive deeper into!
