Inspiration
Since most of our tasks have gone virtual due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a lot of people have to spend their time facing screens and sitting for large amounts of time. This leads to fatigue and bad posture. But to work efficiently and to maintain a correct posture, people need to be constantly reminded. Read this article to know more about how vulnerable our posture is to excess use of technology.
What it does
Our extension detects the person's posture and eye openness by using the webcam on the person's computer. If they fall asleep or are on the verge of falling asleep, the extension alerts the user. Similarly, if the person changes their posture in a weird way, an alarm rings, and the screen is blurred so that the person cannot continue in that position.
How I built it
We used Javascript and Tensorflow.js to handle the webcam for posture detection. We also use HTML, CSS, and python for programming.
Challenges I ran into
None of us was familiar with Computer Vision, so we had to look up things and start from scratch. Also trying to integrate different aspects of every code was a challenge. We were over-ambitious with our goals.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
We were able to make different components of the project successfully.
What I learned
We learned to build Tensorflow projects from scratch. We learned to collaborate with strangers and build a meaningful project.
What's next for Chin up, Eyes Straight
We plan to implement this in form of an application that could be used by a variety of people. There is so much more this can do and help people all around the globe.
