Inspiration
Built this from personal experience, 42, perimenopause, a desk job, two kids, and a system that stopped working. Not a certified trainer or dietitian, just someone who got tired of guessing and built a daily plan instead.
What it does
A daily custom wellness app that turns one woman’s perimenopause reset into a zero-decision plan any woman can follow.
Shows one card a day, a rotating low-impact strength or upper-body-and-cardio workout, meals, supplements, and a daily pelvic floor, psoas, and glute foundation block, all computed automatically by day of week. Logs weight, energy, and notes, saved locally and synced to a connected Google Sheet.
How we built it
Built as a single-file HTML/CSS/JS app with Claude, no framework, no build step. Hosted free on Netlify. Data logging connects to a Google Apps Script web app backend writing to Google Sheets.
Challenges we ran into
Keeping the app decision-free while it kept growing. Every real use revealed a gap, a way to give feedback, a way to track supplements, a way to see progress across devices, and each one risked cluttering the one thing that made this work: a single card, no menus. Also worked around Netlify’s static-hosting limits by connecting to Google Sheets through a free Apps Script backend instead of building a real database, and had to handle CORS quirks since a static site can’t read the script’s response directly. Built this in Claude rather than an OpenAI/ChatGPT environment, so no WebMCP integration in this entry at this point. Can be scaled to openai.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The core problem this solves is real: showing up at the gym, getting overwhelmed by choice, wasting time deciding, then giving up and doing 20 minutes of light cardio instead. Fixing that meant building a fixed daily card with zero decisions, and it’s held up through real use, not a demo scenario. Also proud of how the feature set grew from actual daily friction instead of a spec: a notes field appeared because feedback needed somewhere to live, supplement timing got baked in once absorption conflicts (iron and tea) became a real problem, and the Google Sheet connection turned a single-device app into something trackable over time, all added while using it, not before.
What we learned
Most failure in a self-built fitness plan isn’t a willpower problem, it’s a decision-fatigue problem. Removing every choice, which workout, what to eat, when to take what, did more for consistency than any amount of motivation ever could. Also learned that building for one real, specific person first, rather than a broad audience, produces a more honest product, and that a spreadsheet plus a free script is enough backend for a real MVP, no database needed to start.
What's next for PostShiftGlow
Test with pilot users for one quarter, record before-and-after changes, work with medical domain experts to validate the approach, and put real legal compliance in place, disclaimers, waivers, and clear user consent and opt-ins before any data collection or paid tier. From there, partner with an accredited brand for outreach to the 300+ million women who could get a custom plan for under $20 a month.
