Inspiration We noticed that many newsletter writers spend hours crafting long-form content but struggle to consistently promote it on social platforms like Twitter. Most repurposing tools felt clunky, generic, or not tailored to the voice of writers. We wanted to build something that respected the craft of writing while helping creators grow their audience effortlessly. That’s how PostPilot was born—a tool to automate content snippets and sharing without sacrificing quality.
What it does PostPilot takes your long-form newsletter content and automatically generates short, engaging snippets designed for Twitter. With just a few clicks, it formats your ideas into threads or single tweets and schedules them for posting. It lets writers stay focused on writing, while we handle the distribution hustle.
How we built it We started with a simple content ingestion pipeline using Markdown or Substack links. From there, we used GPT-based models to analyze tone, extract key points, and generate tweet drafts. We then integrated the Twitter API for posting and added a lightweight scheduling dashboard. The frontend was built using React and Tailwind, and the backend runs on Node.js with serverless functions for scalability.
Challenges we ran into One major challenge was generating high-quality tweets that actually reflect the writer’s voice. We had to tune prompts and add controls so users could guide the tone and structure. Another challenge was simplifying the UX—making it powerful without being overwhelming. Finally, balancing automation with user editing took several iterations.
Accomplishments that we're proud of We launched a working MVP in under 30 days and received feedback from real newsletter writers, three of whom agreed to test the tool immediately. We also built a waitlist landing page that attracted early interest and helped validate the concept. Getting quality snippets auto-generated from real newsletters felt like a breakthrough.
What we learned We learned how important voice and nuance are for writers—automation can’t just be fast; it has to be smart. We also discovered the value of fast iteration cycles and user interviews. Finally, we realized that even simple tools can be powerful when they solve a real pain point well.
What's next for PostPilot Next, we’re refining the snippet generation with better tone controls and adding support for more social platforms like LinkedIn. We’re also working on personalized analytics to show which posts drive the most traffic or signups. Our goal is to make PostPilot the go-to copilot for every newsletter writer who wants to grow without burning out.
