Inspiration

I moderate multiple subreddits that share similar themes, and I kept running into the same problem:

One user action often needed to happen across multiple sister communities.

Instead of jumping between subreddits, opening separate mod panels, and repeating the same action over and over, I wanted a faster way for moderators to coordinate across the communities they already manage.

That became ModRelayHQ: a tool built to help mods save time when managing related subreddits.

What it does

ModRelayHQ lets moderators apply user actions across multiple subreddits from one place.

Current actions include:

  • Approve users
  • Unapprove users
  • Ban users
  • Unban users

The app also includes a Time Saved tracker, so moderators can see how much manual work the tool is helping them avoid.

A few important rules:

  • Each mod has their own settings and stats
  • Settings are not shared with other users
  • Mods can only take actions on subreddits they currently moderate
  • The app does not give extra permissions or access to communities they do not control

The goal is simple: less repetitive clicking, faster moderation, and cleaner coordination across related communities.

How we built it

The app was built with Codex for development and ChatGPT for the logo, mascot, and visual assets.

The focus was to keep the app practical, readable, and easy for moderators to understand quickly.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenges were layout, design, and keeping the workflow simple.

I also wanted to add a feature where the app could automatically scan a moderator’s current subreddit list and add those communities into the app. That would make setup much faster, but it does not seem to be available in the way I originally imagined right now.

So instead, I focused on making the manual setup as clear and useful as possible.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I’m honestly proud that the app works and solves a real problem I personally deal with.

This is not just a demo idea for me. I moderate multiple communities, and I can already see myself using ModRelayHQ to save time when the same action needs to happen across related subreddits.

The biggest win is that the app takes a repetitive moderation task and turns it into a much faster workflow.

What we learned

I learned that Codex is extremely powerful for building Reddit apps, especially when paired with Devvit.

I also learned that Devvit has a lot more potential than I realized. There are many ways to build tools that help moderators, improve workflows, and make subreddit management feel less scattered.

What's next for ModRelayHQ

The next feature I would like to investigate is auto-syncing moderated communities, so setup can be faster for mods who manage several subreddits.

I’m also interested in adding more moderation utility features over time, possibly around spam patterns or repeat user issues.

For now, the core goal stays the same:

Help moderators take the same trusted action across multiple communities without wasting time.
