Inspiration and What it Does
College campuses are often so jam-packed with events that it becomes difficult to remember it all. Posterpret works to keep track of it all in a convenient way--clients can take pictures of flyers and posters and have the relevant information (date, time, location) automatically inserted into their iOS calendars.
How we built it
The app is coded in Swift for the core iOS app functionality. Much of the app's functionality also came from Google and Cloud APIs (ImageVision, NatLangProcessing, etc.)
Challenges we ran into
Integrating "get" and "post" requests from within Swift represented a particular challenge for our team. Likewise, it was often difficult to parse a wide range of possible data (ex: a flyer with no words) into the precise dates and times we wanted. Finally, we spent much of our time working on translating our user interfaces from our original Sketch mock-up to a robust, functional app.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
First: building a polished finish product that built on several different APIs and technologies. Next, being able to satisfactorily overcome the above challenges--for example, coming up with our own algorithms and functions for dealing with natural language processing and data parsing.
What's next for Posterpret
Potentially integrating more functionality within the Calendar app like adding reminders and alerts.
