Postara — Conversational AI for WhatsApp Commerce

Inspiration

As a Machine Learning Engineer and business owner, I understand how challenging it can be to balance building technology with running a business. Posting products on WhatsApp often requires editing vendor captions, selecting the right products, and repeating several steps. I wanted to build a solution that would simplify this process and help me manage my business without interrupting my machine learning projects or daily activities. That idea inspired Postara — Conversational AI for WhatsApp Commerce.

What it does

Postara helps streamline product promotion and content preparation for WhatsApp commerce. It is designed to make product posting more organized and less time-consuming.

Key features include:

• Automated captions: Generate product captions to reduce the effort of writing and editing posts.
• Bulk caption generation: Prepare captions for multiple products more efficiently.
• Organized posting workflows: Simplify the steps involved in preparing product posts.
• Conversational experience: An Alexa+-inspired demo explores how users could interact with a conversational assistant to manage commerce tasks more naturally.

The goal is to help business owners spend less time preparing posts and more time running their businesses.

How we built it

We built Postara as a web-based application with a backend that handles caption-preview requests and bulk caption generation. The interface brings the product-posting workflow together in one place, helping users prepare content in a more organized way.

We also developed an Alexa+-inspired conversational demo to explore how natural-language interactions could make commerce workflows easier to use. This is a demonstration of the conversational experience, rather than an official Alexa+ integration.

Challenges we ran into

One of our main challenges was translating a familiar but repetitive business task into a simpler digital workflow. Product posting involves several small actions that can become time-consuming when repeated across multiple items.

Another challenge was bringing the caption-generation workflow and conversational demo together into a clear, usable experience. We had to focus on making the core functionality work while keeping the project practical within the hackathon timeline.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud to have turned a real business challenge into a working prototype. Postara demonstrates how a practical need can inspire a technology solution that supports both entrepreneurship and productivity.

We are especially proud of implementing caption-preview functionality, supporting bulk caption preparation, and creating a conversational demo that explores a more natural way to manage WhatsApp commerce tasks.

Most importantly, Postara was built around a problem we genuinely experience, making the project personally meaningful and grounded in a real use case.

What we learned

Building Postara reinforced the importance of starting with a real user problem rather than technology alone. We learned how simplifying small, repetitive tasks can make a meaningful difference to business owners.

We also gained experience connecting backend functionality with a user-facing workflow and exploring conversational interfaces as a way to make applications more intuitive. The project reminded us that useful AI is not only about sophisticated models; it is also about making everyday work easier.

What's next for Postara — Conversational AI for WhatsApp Commerce

Our next goal is to develop Postara into a more complete conversational commerce assistant.

Planned improvements include:

• WhatsApp integration: Explore supported ways to connect product preparation and posting workflows to WhatsApp.
• Voice and natural-language commands: Let users describe what they want to do instead of navigating multiple screens.
• Smarter product management: Organize product details, captions, and posting schedules in one place.
• Improved AI-generated content: Tailor captions to product information, target audiences, and different selling styles.
• Scheduling and automation: Help business owners prepare content ahead of time and automate supported posting tasks.
• Performance tracking: Explore insights that help sellers understand which products and posts engage their audiences.

Our long-term vision is to make Postara a reliable assistant for small business owners, helping them manage their online selling activities while focusing on the work that matters most.
