The Core
Positive Slime is an interactive web application aimed at boosting people’s mood and thus emotional and mental wellbeing. Upon opening the website’s URL, the player will be greeted by an amicable slime ball and prompted to indicate whether s/he is currently happy or unhappy. If happy, the player should click on the ‘Happy’ button and be redirected to another webpage where the slime ball will then ask whether the player wants to have a dance party (play music) or read a joke (slime related). If the ‘Unhappy’ button is selected instead, the slime will try to lift the player’s spirits up by saying something comforting. Each activity selected with the slime ball will earn a point for the player.
Behind the Scenes
We used Glitch.com to host our website and used HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to format and stylize the site. We also implemented MongoDB’s database as a way to keep track of our points and reward system for this app.
Future Plans
We want to add more features to each ‘Happy’ or ‘Unhappy’ path. For the ‘Happy’ path, we hope to be able to add more playful songs and jokes that the slime ball can randomly output. Similarly, for the ‘Unhappy’ path, we hope to add more motivational quotes and relaxation tips that the slime ball can say and add in an option for the slime ball to randomly play relaxing sound effects, such as rain falling. We also want to expand upon our point system so that these points can be used to unlock cosmetics, such as different types of slime balls or costumes for the slime ball. Additionally, we hope to be able to implement an actual log in screen and account tracker and plan on turning this web application into a mobile app, so that people on-the-go can more easily access the app.
