Inspiration
This project started from a deeply personal (and very real) problem: "I procrastinate like it’s a competitive sport." I wanted a tool that could keep me accountable, help me track focus time, and maybe even make the process fun. Most productivity apps out there are either too boring, too bloated, or just too clinical. I wanted something that felt:
- Simple but useful
- Clean but not boring
- Fun but not distracting So I built POS – Productivity On Steroids, a solo project designed to slap procrastination in the face using timers, to-dos, quick links, and a cheeky digital assistant that’s always watching
What it does
POS is a modular, playful, all-in-one productivity dashboard designed for everyday use. Features include: ⏱️ Pomodoro-style timer that tracks focus sessions and break cycles 📝 3-part To-Do board for Today, This Week, and This Month tasks 🌐 Quick Links bar for easy access to your favorite websites/tools 👤 User sidebar with profile, navigation, and logout 📅 Mini calendar highlighting today’s date 🤖 Chat assistant placeholder — soon to become an AI productivity buddy It’s like a digital coworker that helps you get things done… and doesn’t judge (too much).
How I built it
I built POS entirely solo using a modern, scalable full-stack setup:
⚙️ Tech Stack Next.js (App Router) – file-based routing, React Server Components Tailwind CSS – rapid, responsive styling Framer Motion – fluid UI animations Firebase
- Authentication with Google sign-in
- Firestore for real-time task & session storage
- Secure rules to protect user data TypeScript – safer, more maintainable code Zustand – simple and effective global state management React Icons – for accessible, expressive UI icons
Challenges we ran into
Being the entire dev team. Syncing session data accurately with Firestore Designing a UI that feels clean and focused - but not boring Feature creep: I kept wanting to add more stuff
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
Fully built a working productivity tool - solo - in a short time window Scoped it well enough to finish the MVP, while designing for future expansion
What I learned
How to architect a modern productivity app The importance of user experience in habit-forming tools The joy (and occasional chaos) of solo building something from scratch
What's next for POS - Productivity On Steroids
This is just the MVP. Here's what's coming next: 📊 Analytics Dashboard - Focus trends, heatmaps, weekly streaks, and productivity graphs 🤖 AI Chat Assistant (GPT-powered) - Task summaries, schedule generation, reminders, and some gentle roasting 🎨 Themes & Modes - Light/dark mode, seasonal themes, and “vaporwave” mode for ✨ aesthetic productivity ✨ 🔔 Push Notifications + Reminders - Browser/device nudges to keep you on track 📱 PWA Support + Mobile Redesign - Take your productivity anywhere 🔄 Quick Link Customization & Drag-and-Drop - Let users manage their dashboard layout more freely
