Inspiration

We were inspired by the financial knowledge gap that affects people across generations. Many older adults find modern investment tools difficult to navigate, while younger people often receive little education about investing or its long-term importance. We wanted to create a simple, supportive, and user-friendly platform that helps people feel more confident understanding and managing their financial future.

What it does

Portfolio IQ is an AI-powered investment analysis platform that helps users understand and manage their portfolios in one place. Users can import holdings, track portfolio value and performance, review gains and losses, analyze sector allocation, risk, and diversification, generate reports, and ask the AI assistant questions based on their portfolio data.

How we built it

We built Portfolio IQ using Visual Studio Code, the Google Gemini API, and Docker. We also used AI development tools such as Claude, Codex, and Google AI to assist with debugging, problem-solving, and improving the application.

Challenges we ran into

One of our biggest challenges was coordinating everyone’s work through GitHub. We had to learn how to keep the team working from the same repository, pull and push changes in Visual Studio Code, resolve merge conflicts, and combine everyone’s code without overwriting each other’s work.

Accomplishments that we’re proud of

We created a platform that allows users to upload portfolio files, including CSV, Excel, and PNG files. We also integrated the Google Gemini API into our chatbot, allowing users to ask questions and receive explanations based on their portfolio data.

What we learned

We learned how to use several new development tools and platforms, including Docker, Git, and GitHub. We also gained a deeper understanding of what each tool provides, how they work together, and how they support coding, version control, team collaboration, and application development.

What’s next for Portfolio IQ

Our next steps are to deploy Portfolio IQ, connect it to live market and portfolio data, improve the accuracy of its analysis, and provide more personalized insights. We hope its simple interface will make investing and portfolio analysis easier for users to understand.
