💡 Inspiration
We live on the internet, so why rely on a flat PDF resume?
The core inspiration was to create a space that’s thoughtful, visually engaging, and highly functional—much like the backend systems I enjoy building. It needed to be a living, breathing demonstration of my intent and technical philosophy, complete with a dark-mode galaxy aesthetic because, well, space is cool.
✨ What it Does
This website serves as the central hub for all things Aakanksha. It’s a dynamic portfolio that showcases:
- Skills in Action: Demonstrating proficiency in Backend, ML, and React development.
- Verifiable Experience: Providing details on my role as a Google WE Scholar and other professional engagements.
- Measurable Impact: Quantifying my learning (200+ hours) and project output (10+ meaningful projects).
- A Contact Point: Offering a simple form to “Get in Touch” for collaboration or questions.
🏗️ How We Built It
The site is a testament to my skills across the stack. I leveraged modern tools for speed and scalability:
- Frontend Magic: Built with React to ensure a smooth, component-based user experience and a highly responsive design.
- Aesthetic & Logic: Using a carefully chosen design library and custom CSS to achieve the unique, starry-night, minimalist aesthetic.
- The Content Engine: Content is kept simple for now, but the structure is primed for easy integration with a FastAPI backend or headless CMS when the project catalog expands.
🚧 Challenges We Ran Into
- The Paradox of Choice: Deciding which 10+ projects and which 30+ technologies to focus on without overwhelming the visitor. We solved this with a ruthless editing process and an emphasis on meaningful over many.
- Aesthetic Alignment: Getting the handwritten font to play nicely with the stark, futuristic dark mode was a surprisingly time-consuming balancing act—a perfect example of design logic meeting artistic intent.
- "Perfect is the Enemy": Knowing when to stop tweaking the animations and get it deployed. The biggest challenge was shipping it before adding just one more space-themed feature.
🌟 Accomplishments That We're Proud Of
- Design & Functionality: Successfully melding a highly unique and engaging visual design with clean, fast, and accessible code.
- The "Why": Clearly communicating my “Intentional Effort” and philosophy—it’s not just a list of achievements, but a story about how I approach problems.
- Showcasing the Big Wins: Prominently featuring the most competitive achievements, such as being a Google Women Engineers Scholar (Top 0.1%) and the Microsoft “Code Without Barriers” award, solidifying the site’s credibility.
🧠 What We Learned
- Design is an Algorithm: The visual structure and user flow need the same clean logic as a well-structured backend system. Confusing UI means a messy architecture.
- Self-Marketing is Hard: It's easier to build a Checkers AI using Q-Learning than to concisely and accurately describe yourself in an “About” section. Clarity and conciseness are paramount.
➡️ What’s Next for the Portfolio Website
- Advanced Backend Integration: Setting up a dedicated FastAPI or Node.js backend to manage project data dynamically.
- Interactive Demos: Embedding live, interactive versions of key projects like the Customer Risk Clustering Analysis directly into the site.
- Performance Optimization: Further shaving milliseconds off the load time because 100% intentional effort applies to performance too.
