Inspiration
Many younger retail investors love online resources on finance, especially when they are both free and easy to use. We wanted to build a product that would give the most value for the most retail investors in the shortest amount of time.
What it does
Gives retail investors an idea of how asset class allocations can impact their overall risk profile.
How we built it
Through a combination of html, javascript, css, node.js, express.js, and heroku, our group members collaborated amongst one another in order to provide a proof of concept for such a service.
Challenges we ran into
Our group consists mostly of relatively new programmers, and thus faced many challenges related to the learning curve of applications that were, for some of us, entirely new.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We made a tool that is accessible to the general public and is easy enough to use that it has the potential to help educate many people at the beginning of their financial journey.
What we learned
We learned lots about finance and risk assessment, javascript frameworks, and the integration of backend formulas and calculations with the front-end design.
What's next for Portfolio Risk Analysis Tool
We have aspirations of adding in the country of the asset class (and using this to measure the GDP and unemployment data of said asset), options pricing, and perhaps applying a proper CAPM (Capital Assets Pricing Model) to our modeling in order to increase risk assessment.
