Inspiration

We were inspired to make Porter+ after hearing about crime on campus and in the Athens area.

What it does

This app allows users to report crimes in real time, upload videos and images of incidents, and request help from emergency services.

How we built it

We built Porter+ in VS code using React. The website uses routes to navigate between the two pages and implements Google's map API.

Challenges we ran into

One challenge we had was implementing the API. It took some time to get it working and format it into the scope of the website. Unfortunately, we were unable to find a way to allow the user to drop a pin on the map. Another issue was adding a way for users to upload images and videos to the website.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of the maps API and how well it looks. We are also proud of our teammates as we had members that have not coded in HTML/CSS and learned React from scratch.

What we learned

For half the team, we learned React and the web development process. For the other half, we learned how to implement API's into a web project.

What's next for Porter+

The next steps would be to add a database where reports can be saved and displayed. We also want to add a system where based on the choice of the user the appropriate the proper authorities. Lastly, we would implement a pin drop function on the map.
