Inspiration
Shoshi’s Song is inspired by the Royal Garden of Grand Empress Shoshi no Fujiwara, a sovereign celebrated for her mastery of poetry, art, music, strategy, and tea ceremony. Just as the cherry blossoms bloom each spring in my hometown Washington, D.C., reminding us of beauty’s fleeting nature and the promise of renewal, this world reimagines her ruined garden as a reborn sanctuary—a place of reflection, creativity, and play in the metaverse.
What it does
Shoshi’s Song is both a chill AFK lounge and a social hub, designed for visitors to enjoy alone or with friends. Within the garden:
Tea House: Sip and relax beneath drifting blossoms.
Acoustic Sound Room: Perform songs, share music, or sing karaoke with friends.
Art Studio: Draw, sketch, and create in a space dedicated to imagination.
Game Lounge: Play chess or other strategy games that echo the Empress’s intellect.
Bedroom Sanctuary: Retreat with grab-able accessories for comfort and presence.
Central Fire Element: A flame of transformation, representing creativity and endurance.
It is a world where history, art, and community converge in one immersive environment.
How we built it
Meta Horizon Worlds Editor (Desktop & In-Headset): Built terrain, atmosphere, and world layout.
File-Backed Scripts (FBS): Structured interactivity, AFK systems, and remix-friendly modularity.
Horizon Asset Library: Adapted prefabs and props for thematic use.
VR Headset Testing: Iterated to ensure flow, comfort, and AFK usability.
External Design Tools (Canva, illustration apps): Visualized the Tea House, Sound Room, Art Studio, Game Lounge, and Bedroom Sanctuary.
Narrative & Voiceover Scripting: Added immersive lore so players step into a story, not just a space.
The design emphasizes remixability: each building is modular and can be reused, swapped, or expanded, making Shoshi’s Song a foundation for other creators’ AFK gardens and social hubs.
Challenges we ran into
Platform Updates: Horizon Desktop changes during the contest limited asset imports, preventing full execution of all buildings.
Balancing Performance: Creating multiple detailed spaces while keeping the world optimized.
Time Constraints: Deadlines aligned with editor updates, requiring pivots and adaptive storytelling.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Reviving cultural inspiration into a story-driven AFK garden.
Designing a remixable, modular world for others to adapt.
Integrating symbolism—cherry blossoms, fire, and artistry—to enrich immersion.
Blending serenity and social play: tea, music, art, games, and relaxation under one vision.
What we learned
Adaptability drives creation. Even with technical setbacks, narrative and modular design carried the vision forward.
Storytelling elevates worlds. Visitors engage more deeply when a space has meaning and lore.
Remixability fuels community. Building with modular parts encourages creators to evolve and personalize shared spaces.
What's next for Shoshi's Song
The story of Shoshi’s Song is only beginning. The next steps focus on expansion, interactivity, and community collaboration:
Bring the Vision Fully to Life: Complete the Tea House, Sound Room, Art Studio, Game Lounge, and Bedroom Sanctuary as the Horizon Desktop stabilizes, giving visitors the full experience as originally imagined.
Remix-Ready Kits: Release modular pieces—like karaoke stages, art easels, chessboards, and fire features—that creators can remix into their own AFK lounges or social hubs.
Seasonal Transformations: Evolve the garden with cherry blossom festivals in spring, lantern-lit fire ceremonies in summer, harvest strategy nights in autumn, and winter reflection events.
Cross-World Connections: Use modularity to link Shoshi’s Song to other creator worlds, forming a network of cultural sanctuaries across Horizon.
Community as Co-Creators: Invite players not just to visit, but to remix, adapt, and expand the world, ensuring the Empress’s song continues to grow with every creator who joins the story.
Shoshi’s Song is more than a garden—it’s a foundation for living culture in the metaverse, one remix at a time.
