Inspiration
I've always been intrigued by Linux and Raspberry Pi, so I decided to try my hand at making it portable.
What it does
It runs a full Linux desktop (Debian Jessie). The screen is touchscreen which allows for convenient navigating. The Pi 3 also features Wifi and Bluetooth to make this a fully wireless experience.
How I built it
I soldered my LiPo battery to a booster and then to the Pi for power. I created a circuit sandwich with the battery and booster in between the Pi and display.
Challenges I ran into
I needed to remove the camera and display ribbon connectors from the Pi to allow for adequate space for the battery. Also, thermals may be an issue as the processor on the Pi 3 runs hot.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
My ability to include all the components I wanted, and to have it work.
What I learned
You will always find bumps in the road along the way, even when you never expect them.
What's next for Portable Raspberry Pi 3 Desktop
Better thermal management, more lightweight design, and cheaper production cost.
