Inspiration

The journey began when I was inspired by another VR travel app - TriptoVR. Eager to bring my own vision to life, I bought a 360-degree camera and started filming real-world locations myself. That hands-on filming experience quickly became the foundation for building my own dedicated virtual reality travel application.

What it does

Porte360 lets users immerse themselves in high-quality 360-degree travel videos directly through their VR headsets. It offers global accessibility by featuring full localization across 36 languages. Users can explore breathtaking destinations around the world with localized audio streams and interfaces tailored to their native language.

How I built it

I brought this project to life through the powerful combination of modern AI tools and countless sleepless nights. AI assisted me across various stages of development, from problem-solving to optimizing workflows. Through continuous prototyping and relentless solo development, I turned raw footage into a fully functioning VR product.

Challenges I ran into

Capturing high-grade 360 footage was only the first hurdle. The biggest challenge was processing massive raw video files and converting them into optimized, compatible formats for VR playback. Balancing visual fidelity with smooth performance required extensive experimentation with codecs, bitrate management, and compression pipelines.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I built what is likely one of the few VR applications capable of seamlessly streaming and playing 360-degree video in crystal-clear 6K and 8K resolutions. I am also extremely proud of delivering full accessibility by implementing interface localization and multi-track audio translation across 36 different languages entirely on my own.

What I learned

Building this project gave me deep, end-to-end experience in full-stack VR development. I mastered handling heavy high-resolution 360 video pipelines, configuring low-latency adaptive streaming, and tackling hardware-specific optimizations for VR headsets.

What's next for Porte360

I plan to expand the content library with a wider variety of immersive 360-degree travel destinations worldwide. Alongside new videos, I will be introducing more interactive travel features, optimizing streaming performance, and bringing further enhancements to the platform.
