Inspiration
Racing video games ghost cars and the NFL combine 40 yard dash
What it does
You're competing against an AR ghost, running at the pace of your best chrono at the 40 yard dash. The first round is easy, but after you set your best time, it will always be a race against your past self.
How we built it
We used a model and animations from Mixamo, sounds and materials from the LS library, pieces of the true size object template, and a lot of Elmer's glue (custom scripts).
Challenges we ran into
Scene placement was a difficult piece of UX to solve since the alignment and sizing is so integral to the experience. If the alignment is slightly off, it makes a big difference 40 yards in the distance. There is still some unreliability with the surface tracking, but combining the true size template with some of our own logic allowed us to lock the track to the camera's rotation in an alignment phase. In this case, it feels much more natural than using two fingers to rotate.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
After road-testing our port of anime.js, we optimized the workflow a bit. It's super nice to be able to use the same animation library in our web work AND in Lens Studio.
What we learned
Our workflow and speed in LS improved a lot on this sprint (no pun intended)!
What's next for Ghost Runner
We''ll make an app doing exactly what the ghost runner does, and probably apply to Snap Ghost program for it.
