Honestly, we've all been there: super hyped for a concert, only for it to get low-key chaotic.From the classic "what even is my outfit vibe?" stress to legit losing your whole squad in the crowd, things go from fun to frantic real quick. People forget their essentials, miss the whole vibe, and can’t even find their main characters. It’s a total mood killer. We realized concerts should be iconic, not stressful. That fragmented, sometimes stressful experience is the core problem POPCULT was born to solve. We were inspired to create a seamless, AI-powered solution that makes every part of the concert journey pure joy.
What it does
POPCULT is your AI-powered concert bestie that covers everything from pre-show planning to post-concert memories. It helps you: Style Me (OOTN): Get personalized outfit inspo based on the artist's vibe and weather, or vote on the hottest "Outfit of the Night" looks. Pack My Bag: Get a personalized checklist so you never forget essentials for the show. Find My Friend: Easily locate your friends in the crowd using a map. Crowd Blend: Understand the crowd's vibe, like what percentages are wearing certain styles, so you can fit in or stand out. Community Board: Connect with fellow concert-goers to share tips, find lost items, or trade tickets/merch. Concert Journal: Capture and cherish every epic moment from your shows.
Essentially, POPCULT is all about making your concert experience less 'ugh' and more 'epic'.
How we built it
We built POPCULT as a responsive web application to ensure accessibility from any device Frontend: We chose React with TypeScript for building our dynamic and interactive user interface. TypeScript added that extra layer of type safety and helped us write cleaner, more maintainable code, which is super key for a project this ambitious. We styled everything using custom CSS to give it that polished, intuitive look and feel Backend: The brain of POPCULT runs on Node.js. This powers all our server-side logic, handling user requests, data processing for features like "Crowd Blend" and "Fan Energy" (scraping data primarily from X), and serving our AI recommendations. AI Integration: For features like "Style Me," we started with simple AI logic to generate outfit suggestions based on artist names, vibe, and weather inputs. We're prototyping these initial models with an eye towards integrating more sophisticated AI models or leveraging open-source solutions from platforms like Hugging Face in the future.
Challenges we ran into
Developing POPCULT presented several key challenges, including effectively integrating real-time data from external platforms like X for features such as "Crowd Blend" and "Fan Energy," where managing API rate limits and data parsing proved complex. Crafting the initial AI logic for "Style Me" required careful iteration to achieve personalized and contextually relevant outfit suggestions. Additionally, ensuring accurate real-time location tracking for "Find My Friend" while strictly adhering to user privacy and consent was a delicate balance we meticulously addressed, all within the demanding constraints of a hackathon timeline.

We're seriously stoked about what we pulled off! Comprehensive Solution: We managed to integrate a wide array of features that address key pain points throughout the entire concert journey, from planning to memory-making, all in one app Intuitive UI: We're really proud of the clean, user-friendly interface that makes navigating POPCULT feel seamless and fun. AI-Powered Features: Successfully implementing initial AI logic for features like "Style Me" demonstrates the potential for personalized, smart assistance in the concert experience. Community Focus: Building out the "Community Board" and "Find My Friend" features was a big win, fostering actual connection among users.
What we learned
This hackathon was a massive learning curve! API Prowess: We deepened our understanding of working with various APIs, especially for real-time data scraping and external service integration. AI Prototyping: We gained hands-on experience in quickly prototyping AI functionalities, even with limited resources, and understanding their practical application. User-Centric Design: Reinforcing the importance of always designing with the user's experience at the forefront, solving real problems they face.
What's next for POPCULT
This is just the beginning for our AI concert bestie! Advanced AI Models: Developing our own custom AI models or integrating robust open-source solutions (like from Hugging Face) for even more precise outfit recommendations, crowd sentiment analysis, and predictive features. AR Integration: Exploring Augmented Reality (AR) for "Find My Friend" to visually guide users to their friends in a venue, or for interactive fan experiences. Partnerships: Collaborating with ticketing platforms, venues, and artists for exclusive content and streamlined integrations. Monetization: Exploring premium features, exclusive content, or partnerships with brands for outfit recommendations. Expansion: Launching on mobile app stores (iOS/Android) and expanding our database of concerts and artists globally.
