Inspiration

A heavy inspiration for Popcorn, Please was a game we all played when we were younger! We drew heavy inspiration from Papas Pizzeria and other similar games. We also drew large inspiration from movie theatres--primarily the concession stand.

What it does

Popcorn, Please is a 2D game where you'll be faced with a set of peculiar customers at a concession stand in a movie theatre. It's up to you to be able to give these customers EXACTLY what they want. In front of you is a tray and the ingredients to build the perfect movie snack! Deal with time constraints, weird customers, and the ingredients in front of you.

How we built it

Popcorn, Please was built using Unity. To structure the project and its menus we used Figma. For all assets of the game, they were hand drawn using procreate and put together in Figma. All along with Visual studio as the IDE for this whole project.

Challenges we ran into

We primarily struggled with bottlenecks. We learned during a game development workshop that there are many bottle necks. During our own development we saw firsthand these bottlenecks and how it affected out team. We faced issues with connecting separate branches together. We also struggled with keeping up with each other as some team members knew more unity than others. Thankfully, Unity documentation enabled us to keep pace with the project. We also faced issues with combining everything into the final project as there were many moving parts involved with each other that caused hard conflicts to resolve.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of coming together and developing a fun project with our interests. We're proud of the logic we came up with for food combinations and the functionality with creating the correct order.

What we learned

We learned what we were capable of in 24 hours! Though our struggles we learned the importance of version control as many times we had to go back to a working version. Through our challenges with bottlenecks, we learned to be more communicative with each other. Each of our own contributions to the game development interested and relied on each others. With great and frequent communication we worked our way through each bottleneck. We also learned how to manage ourselves during a time crunch and truly make the best out of what we have.

What's next for Popcorn, Please!

We hope to continue developing and evolving Popcorn, Please! We'd like to implement a ticket checking section before customers head into the movie theatre as well as more characters and unique menu options. We also hope to implement an angry customer system to the tray!
