Inspiration

When I started building Pop-Up Sticker Quest, I wasn’t thinking about being the best or beating the competition. I was thinking about connection. So many people put on this headset not just to play—but to escape, to cope, to feel seen. I wanted to create something that brought people together. A place where it wasn’t just about winning, but about teaming up, laughing, helping one another, and building memories side by side. That was my true inspiration—making something that could remind people that they belong.

What it does

Pop-Up Sticker Quest is more than a game—it’s an experience that brings people together through play, curiosity, and collaboration. Players explore five themed worlds—Enchanted Forest, Candy Land, Slime Goo, Sports Topia, and Pirate’s Cove—to find hidden stickers and complete their personal sticker albums. But what makes this world different is the feeling it gives you. It encourages players to work together, celebrate each other, and just have fun without pressure. Just pure discovery, teamwork, and joy. It’s playful. It’s positive. And it’s built to remind people how powerful connection can be.

How we built it

I started with a vision—a colorful, pop up storybook I remembered having when I was a kid and wanted to create how my pop up book made me feel. Then I mapped out the five themes and began building them one by one using Horizon Worlds’ tools. I focused on color, movement, and placement to make every area feel magical and unique. Even though I’m not an expert scripter, I leaned into the scripting knowledge I do have and made smart use of templates, trial-and-error, and creative problem-solving. I also paid close attention to how the environment would feel for the player—not just how it looked. Every sticker interaction, transition, and visual choice was made with intention.

Challenges we ran into

There were definitely moments that tested me. Lag in the headset turned 10-minute tasks into 45-minute ones. Progress felt slow some days. And not having deep scripting knowledge meant I had to stretch myself a lot. But I didn’t quit. I used everything I did have—creativity, grit, passion—and I figured things out. It wasn’t easy, but it was worth it.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Creating something different: I stayed true to my vision and built a world that prioritizes joy and teamwork over competition. Learning and growing: I pushed through challenges, taught myself what I needed, and kept going even when things got hard. Designing a full multi-theme experience: From concept to execution, I created a fully immersive five-world game that feels cohesive, fun, and rewarding for all ages. Bringing others joy: Watching players light up while exploring the world and collecting stickers has been the most rewarding part of this journey.

I’m proud that I didn’t wait for perfect conditions. I built Pop-Up Sticker Quest with what I had—and I poured heart into every piece of it.

What we learned

This journey reminded me of something powerful: I don’t give up easily. I ran into moments where things got hard—tools weren’t working the way I wanted, and I was comparing myself to what I didn’t know. But something shifted. I stopped focusing on what I lacked and started focusing on what I had. That mindset changed everything. It gave me the courage to keep showing up, one small breakthrough at a time. Building this world reminded me that showing up with heart, effort, and intention is more than enough.

What's next for POP-UP STICKER QUEST

The journey is just beginning. My next step is to expand Pop-Up Sticker Quest into a fuller, more layered experience. I want to add more sticker worlds, story-driven challenges, and collaborative group tasks that bring players even closer together. I’m also exploring ways to make the world more accessible and inclusive—adding voice prompts, layered sound design, and visual cues for different player needs. Eventually, I want to create a Pop-Up Sticker Series—a growing collection of sticker adventures that rotate seasonally or by theme, giving people new reasons to come back, explore, and grow with each other. Most of all, I want Pop-Up Sticker Quest to become a space where people don’t just play—but belong. A place where creativity is encouraged, kindness is rewarded, and fun is always front and center.
