Inspiration Pop Kulture Selfie Studio was inspired by the creativity of online fashion communities and the growing popularity of immersive digital spaces for social connection. We wanted to create a fun, stylized environment where players could explore, pose, and create memories—either solo or with friends. With the rise of short-form video content and aesthetic-led gaming, we saw an opportunity to blend interactive fashion, creativity, and self-expression in a way that’s instantly shareable.

What it does Pop Kulture Selfie Studio is a stylized virtual photo studio in Horizon Worlds where players can explore themed rooms, strike poses, and capture standout moments. It features a rotating set of backdrops, dynamic lighting, and interactive props to create perfect in-world photos or videos. Whether you're flexing your fit, hanging out with friends, or creating content, the space is built for expression. Visitors can also preview and purchase new avatar clothing items in the connected storefront.

How we built it We designed the world in Meta Horizon Worlds using a blend of in-platform building tools, Meta-made assets, and custom assets we created ourselves. For props and backdrops, we used generative AI to design a wide array of themes, which were then adapted into Horizon-ready textures. We built the core logic with Horizon scripting to handle room rotation, light changes, and user interaction. Layout design was iterated with feedback, ensuring smooth flow and photogenic spaces.

Challenges we ran into Balancing visual quality and performance for mobile access was a constant challenge. We also had to optimize AI-generated textures to suit VR while still looking clean and stylized. Creating a room rotation system that felt seamless and intuitive required multiple iterations. Lastly, designing the space to be usable both solo and socially meant we needed to test and adjust layout and interaction flow often.

Accomplishments that we're proud of We’re proud of how well the environment invites creativity. Players genuinely linger, explore, and return for new poses or to see updated backdrops. Seeing how well the space adapts to solo creators and friend groups alike was a big win. We’re also proud of how shareable the moments are—our main goal was to create a studio that encourages self-expression and social storytelling.

What we learned We learned a lot about combining procedural world design with user-driven content. Working with AI tools helped us speed up asset generation but also required fine-tuning to match the style and performance we needed. Building for both VR and mobile simultaneously forced us to consider how spatial layout and performance affect user experience in each format. We also deepened our understanding of creating emotionally resonant interactive environments.

What's next for Pop Kulture Selfie Studio We’re planning seasonal room rotations and limited-edition backdrops based on community feedback and holidays. We’ll expand the clothing options in the storefront and introduce collectible cosmetics. We’re also exploring potential multiplayer photo challenges, user-submitted themes, and live pose events. Pop Kulture is built to evolve—and we can’t wait to see what players do with it next.
