Inspiration
there are so many social media apps out there, and everyone has their own preference on which one to use to contact them. some prefer discord, others use instagram, and the list goes on.
this leads to users having to have all these different apps installed and swap between them depending on which person they are talking to.
What it does
aims to unify these different messaging platforms into one to serve as a comprehensive list of contacts.
How we built it
frontend is built with expo backend is built with express running several playwright contexts to scrape for new messages real-time server -> client communication via SSE
Challenges we ran into
- interacting with web pages in this way is not very efficient
- accurately scraping message data was difficult
Accomplishments that we're proud of
it works
What we learned
never used SSE before today, but it works quite well for this app, where most traffic is server-to-client. usually i would have gone with websockets as the default real-time protocol.
What's next for unitext
add support for more messaging platform providers
