Inspiration

Being 3 college students struggling with boredom while maintaining focus, we noticed a Pomodoro app that would help us not to lose our focus after a short break. During breaks, students typically distract themselves by navigating other websites and playing games, which takes them more than 5 minutes. We realized that prolonged break was one of the biggest enemies of productivity -- Pomofun is designed to beat that enemy for you!

What Pomofun does

Pomofun is a Pomodoro timer that will direct you to random entertainment websites, games, and videos that will help you have fun during your 5-minute break. After being done with your break, you can go back to your task on time, without further distractions. After 4 sets of 25-minute concentration times, you can have a 15-minute long break.

How we built it

We built Pomofun using CSS, HTML, React, and Node.js. When building our timer, our inspiration was the guide: [link]https://freshman.tech/pomodoro-timer/, and we styled it using pastel colors in CSS.

Challenges we ran into

React, Node, and CSS were new to us, and Git was new to most of our team members. Navigating through Git merge conflicts and React bugs was quite challenging, and we often asked each other and the FemmeHack mentors for help debugging our app.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Overall, we are very proud of what we were capable of building in less than 24 hours! Despite all challenges, we were able to get a working app that has a home page, displays a timer with a progress bar, and directs to different websites for fun breaks.

What we learned

Our takeaway from FemmeHacks 2023 is that there are a lot of technologies to learn to be able to build websites and apps successfully. This was our first hackathon, and we are excited to see what else we can learn to build in our future hacks!

What's next for Pomofun

We hope to keep working on Pomofun, updating it with new short distractions so that no more students get bored during their breaks.
