Inspiration
As university students surrounded by distractions online, we can relate to the struggle of being unproductive when working. We wanted to design a project that we could see ourselves using and we think the Pomodoro technique extension is exactly that.
What it does
The Pomodoro Extension we programmed allows users to set a specific period of time they would like to study for and then set another timer to allow for breaks in between study periods. When in study mode, our extension blocks websites which could potentially be distracting. These websites can also be chosen by the user.
How we built it
We used a combination of HTML, CSS, and Javascript in order to program the chrome extension.
Challenges we ran into
Due to our teams lack of experience in this area there were an abundance of challenges for us to face and overcome. The biggest challenge was probably the fact that none of us had ever used Javascript before.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The accomplishment that we as a team are most proud of is creating a project that is not only usable, but also implements many of the ideas we had in the design process. Specifically being able to figure out the Javascript for this project was quite an accomplishment for us.
What we learned
Not only did we gain technical skills, such as the aforementioned Javascript, CSS, and HTML, we also learned plenty about the software design process such as design refinements and design constraints we did not initially consider.
What's next for Pomodoro Chrome Extension
There are a few features that we had hoped we would be able to implement, however our time constraints did not allow this. We plan on continuing to update this Project in the future as we advance our software skills. One of the features we plan on implementing is the ability to remove individual sites rather than all sites to be blocked.
