Inspiration
The Pomodoro technique is a popular time management method that helps individuals increase productivity and reduce distractions. In the era of TikTok and Instagram, we know firsthand how easy it is to get distracted. As such, we wanted to develop a website that would keep users accountable and aid with their study sessions!
What it does
The Pomodoro studying technique, where you break up chunks of studying time into 25 minute intervals, was developed to keep users focused and engaged with their work. Our project allows users to select preset timer options, and it also gives them an option to create their own study intervals.
How we built it
We were all relatively new to the backend component of websites, so we had to learn how to use Firebase and integrate it with React. We also worked with new UI libraries, and worked out new interactive elements of a website we haven't worked on before such as timers and updating profile pictures.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were proud of being able to build a website that looked aesthetic as well as functional. We also built a functional backend, and implemented Google Authentication, which was a new feature we hadn't workeed with before. We built our website almost completely from scratch without any templates as well.
What we learned
We learned how to collaborate effectively on github for a project on a time crunch, and how to build and integrate a backend with a react website. We also learned basic design principles and gained more experience with front end website coding.
What's next for Pomododo
We had a few features we wanted to implement but lacked the time to do so. We wanted to add personal study goals, and a social feature which would allow people to connect with their friends and motivate each other.
