Inspiration

I've heard from teachers that students wanted to make discord groups for school clubs, and those teachers don't know how to use Discord. I wanted to make a simple application that would help them and people without knowledge of discord to get more comfortable with discord.

What it does

Pomme allows for new moderators to become comfortable with roles, and has built-in protection against unwanted users. It allows for moderators easily verify and mute users, while making the process much easier to do. There are restrictions that unverified users have to help protect against scams, like how these users can't send web links. It also has built in spam protection that will kick users if abused.

How we built it

I built this discord bot through Discord Bot Studio, which is essentially block code for making discord bots. It handles most of the process of making a discord bot, with hosting and managing bot tokens.

Challenges we ran into

The software does have limitations because of it's simplicity, which restricted more advanced features I was hoping to add. Thankfully, there are workarounds that made this not much of an issue.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I'm proud that the process of moderating is extremely simple, which is the main goal of Pomme. The automatic message removal and warnings allow for inexperienced moderators to have enough headway to take action on these problematic users.

What we learned

I learned that most of moderation bot backend is alot more complicated than I expected. Especially since this is made to be as easy to use as possible, having to put some safeguards in these commands made this more complicated.

What's next for Pomme

I hope with more time and commands, including a simple video tutorial series would help ease people into using this bot more. It would help those without much computer experience to use Discord.
