Inspiration
Every two weeks, a language dies and with it, centuries of stories, songs, and wisdom vanish forever. We refused to watch cultural treasures fade into silence. PolyNative was born from a burning desire to give endangered voices a global stage.
What it does
PolyNative is a dynamic, two-sided marketplace where instructors native speakers of rare languages become castellers of culture, crafting multimedia courses and authentic lessons. Learners from anywhere can enroll, practice with spaced-repetition flashcards, record alongside instructors, earn badges, and celebrate living human heritage.
How we built it
React 18 frontend with TypeScript, styled using Tailwind CSS and Lucide React for icons, all bundled with Vite. For data management, it currently relies on client-side mock data and local storage, with the frontend deployed on Netlify.
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges we faced was working within the daily token limits of Bolt.new. This constraint significantly slowed our development process, making it difficult to iterate quickly, review components efficiently, and fix UI or logic issues in real time. We often had to pause work mid-flow while waiting for token resets, which affected our momentum. Despite this, we remained committed to refining the app’s design and ensuring it aligned with our new global mission to support endangered languages.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Rich and Engaging Learning Experience: The platform offers diverse learning modalities, including interactive flashcards, quizzes, cultural insights, and native audio pronunciation, making the learning process effective and enjoyable.
Robust Multi-Role System: We implemented distinct and functional dashboards for learners, instructors, and administrators, each tailored to their specific needs and permissions, demonstrating a strong understanding of role-based access control.
Intuitive Content Creation Tools: The instructor and admin dashboards provide powerful tools for content management, allowing for easy creation and organization of lessons, words, quizzes, and cultural tips. The audio management studio is a key feature for native speakers to contribute authentic pronunciation
What we learned
The Power of Modern Web Technologies: Leveraging tools like Vite and Tailwind CSS significantly accelerated development and allowed us to focus on core features rather than boilerplate, proving their effectiveness for building high-quality applications. The use of client-side data management further emphasized rapid prototyping capabilities.
